Looking forward to this as I really like the STALKER games. Recently completed the original again using the STALKER Complete 2009 mod. Will put up a separate post about it rather than hijack this one.

For those that don't know, here's some info on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl [2007] features an alternate reality where a second nuclear disaster occurs at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the near future and causes strange changes in the area around it...

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky [2008] is a stand-alone prequel.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is a sequel set shortly after the events in Shadow of Chernobyl.

The STALKER games are developed on the X-Ray engine.

It's out now on Steam - anyone got it?

Looks like there's a loyalty promo special thing. If you've already got the Steam version of any of the past Stalker games, it's only $19.99US. $29.99 for the rest of us who bought the retail version/s.

I really struggled to get into the original Stalker - buggy as hell, and an underpowered system helped to turn me off, but overall I think it's a game I'd normally like. I've heard really good things about the latest, but still want to hear some local feedback before diving in.

    Cheers.

Bought it, downloaded, installed and nothing.

Just wouldn't fire up for me - so jumped on the Steam forums, and I'm not alone. Seems the game conflicts with a few different things - for me it's Xfire. Closed it down, and the game fired up straight away :p

Now you've started the game and therefore initiated the full install, does xfire still cause issues?

The Earl and I are looking forward to this... he can't wait until the 25th comes around.

    (What games are never buggy?)

    What's on 25th?? Store release??

Ned, yes I still have the Xfire bug - but knowing what it is makes it a very simple workaround. Apart from that, I've not seen any other bugs - haven't even had it crash on me.

I haven't played a lot yet - so far it looks and feels exactly like the original Stalker - somewhat modernised and (so far) mostly bug free. I've got the same main frustration as with the original - innacurate weapons. At least that's how it starts out. Also things like totally empty outposts with nothing and nobody there... until you speak to the trigger agent, and they'll spawn two rival factions. I know these things can't always be helped - but it takes you out of the moment.

There's a lot to like, and if you were a fan of any of the other games - you'll love it! :) But if you prefer the more modern shooters and didn't like the earlier Stalkers - then this wont win you over.

All up I think it's a good game with heaps of potential. Can't wait to see the mods for it too! :)

There was a mod for the first one to change the weapon accuracy, possible still works with this version?
I did really enjoy the first one, had a good atmosphere about it but I understand what you mean when you mention random spawns taking you out of the moment - a real annoyance of mine.

I am an avid fan of teh S.T.A.L.K.E.R series. I thought this was a little average. I think SoC gameplay in CoP would have made it way better.
