The Steam Holiday Sale seems like a bit of a Christmas tradition amongst Steam users. However, I had a browse and didn't see anything I like that I don't already own. So I would like some tips on good games that shouldn't be missed and that are currently at a bargain price.

I have been looking at Dragon Age for a long time but for some reason it is still a rip-off on Australian Steam compared to other countries.

So what will you buy this Christmas and which games would you recommend?

Courtesy EA pricing. Dragon Age's Ultimate Edition is about what, ~$8 difference between US and AU, so it's not the worst rip-off we've seen. If you enjoy DA, then there's more than enough content in the Ulitmate Edition to cover far more than the $8 difference.

(Actually, looking at the Steam pricing, the Ultimate Edition is cheaper than the base game - sheesh!)

    Super Meat Boy for $3.75.

Don't buy anything not currently a daily special, unless it is already 75% off, is less than $5 or you don't suffer from buyer's remorse.

I'm actually playing Dragon Age, bought it long time ago but never sorta got round to it, 45 hours in now and probably about halfway, this game is huge.

You gonna get your money's worth out of that one for sure, it has great RPG game mechanics. There are 2 DA novels I read as well and the in game story is excellent.

But it's a shame that it's not a large open world like Oblivion, that's my biggest gripe with it, I never get that sense of scale with it as you jump between areas you pick on a map.

Bioshock 2 I bought on sale a while back, I was quite disappointed with that one myself, it all felt very generic to me and the way to finish a level became even tedious, it had very little memorable moments imo.
But $13 off course you can't complain about.

What do you mean, you saying you haven't got it yet!

That game is worth ten times that amount.

    Today (Friday 24th):
    Alpha Protocol ($12.50)
    Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising ($3)
Patrician IV ($7.5) ---- Wasn't sure about this one, but sounded good enough for 7.5
Darksiders ($9.99) --- Got this, almost didn't, suggest reading therough the various issue on the steam forum BEFORE buying it.

    Game's I almost brought.
Wings Of Prey ($6) but with so many issues (having to use yuplay, and the worst DRM ever invented) made me decide against it.
Silent Hunter V ($10.19) Again ALOT of problems with this game.
Blood Bowl LE ($19.99) still annoyed that there wasn't an upgrade option form the previous version to this at a much more resaonable price.

Not sure what the one that isn't available in our region is, think it's Risen, which I luckily took advantage of a month or two ago when they aciddentily had it up for purchase for a weekend.

    Yesterday I picked up
HL2 Ep 1 & 2 for $3.99 each, believe it or not, never got those (Had HL2 & Lost Coast for ages)

the day before that I got
Resident Evil 5 for $10.20, Disciples 3 for $7.5 and Defense Grid for $2

Not on sale sale but will pick up tomorrow with my next round of purchases - Back To The Future from Telltale games. 80's Flashback. :)

I played through Darksiders without any game related issues. The only problem I had was with achievements registering. The game itself played flawlessly.

    $10 is a steal. I loved it.

Thanks for the heads up on the Wings of Prey DRM MMogaddict, I was all set to buy it until I read up on it after seeing your post.
