Hey folks, for those that played in The Division beta(s), what gun's did you try/recommend?

For me, the M4 proved the most reliable in terms of overall effectiveness. Good at all ranges due to its lowish recoil.

The Marksman rifle (or any sniper rifle) was a must have. The shear amount of damage this does makes early engagements a breeze.

So, what did you all find out in your travels?

Having each of the following types plus the handgun would be my preference, this may change once the game goes live. The Marksman rifle is very useful especially in PvE and to a certain extent in PvP when engaging from a distance due to the high damage output.

    Assault rifle - M4
Marksman Rifle - Think it was the M44
    SMG - MP5

Was the high ammo count of LMG really worth the lower damage? It was fun using them but I'm not sure they were that effective. Same goes for the shotty. Fun to use but an SMG is better for close range?

After playing both the closed and open beta.

IMO it's not a question of what gun, but a question of what build.
As long as you don't push up to far too early PVE is tantamount to a shooting gallery.
Spending a significant time in PVP and actually synergizing your group builds really starts to show how game changing gear stats are, and that the game is an RPG at it's core.

Stacking DMR and primary damage early on with secondary health made short work of rogues especially with a shotgun surgeon in group for when the gap closed, easily taking out 4 man rogues .
    Using SCAR-H & M4

Later on I stacked health (+7k) with secondary skill power to tank damage and reduce cooldowns, combined with the ballistic shield and heal nade I didn't have to dip into my medkits much and took the fire from the rest of my group, bleeding opponent ammunition, closing distance and shutting down snipers.
    Using ACR & AK47

Then I switched to stacking skill power, now it was like running around with an M32, those choosing to go rogue at extraction where quickly 1 shot unless they had stacked health, and with short cooldown from skill stack follow up nades were quick.
    Using Liberator & SAW

Even with how quick it was to get max level gear in the betas, for me I see longevity in acquiring alternative gear for more specialist builds.

Yeah as per bruiser its all about the build, play style and the right guns to match.

I've always been the long range player in most shooters, so I preferred to rock the High damage lower health build but if playing solo in the DZ that is quite tough unless you are running with a squad with different play styles to synergies this doesn't work.
For this I was rocking a Purple M44 with great mods as my go to gun and would switch to first an ACR for in close stuff, but latter found a great SCAR-L and then last night before beta closed the Liberator.

So I think with most RPGs early on the gun type won't matter as much as you will come across better weapons of different types butter with improved stats etc which will be a no brainier to switch like me from the ACR -> SCAR-L -> Liberator.
But as you get further in you will have more options and then it comes down to play style and squad make up more than anything.

I found other than the M249 I found when I was about level 5 the LMGs weren't worth the effort because they weren't overly accurate and the DPS wasn't great so in the end I was almost always better with an Assault rifle, because the M249 reload time was huge which made it impractical for sustained combat.

Looks like here had an M1A (nice enough DMR) and a Liberator.
He was also level 12 and those other 3 were just noobs!

Found the M4 Police to be my go to gun. A good mix of stopping power and accuracy.

only played open beta, but for most of it i solo levelled too 8 normal and was using a modded out ak and mp5, then once i hit the DZ with a group and got a good military scar-h and liberator, and those 2 in combo just plain rocked.

sentry gun in DZ = bad, trolled to go rogue

Thanks for the info guys :) I had also heard about players deliberately standing in front of turrets to force rogue status on the players that dropped it. I hope this is fixed for live, not sure how though ...

If you're serious about running in the DZ, there are better talents to pick.

A combination of heal and scan seemed to work best. The turret seemed more of a liability and didn't really do much in the way of damage.

I found the Turret best used for PvE, while Dmg was low it tended to force NPC's to stay behind cover and gave me some breathing room
