For a bit of fun I thought it might be interesting to see other users desktops here and maybe swap some. Be it win2k, win98 , or god forgive win95... lets see em (yes even the linux ones) But no Mac's hehe oh well maybe.
Mines here to fire it off

Very nice, SS. Is that Samurize giving you the real time stats of your 'puter? Used to use that and all other wonderful gizmos, but now my gaming PC is stripped down to the lean, mean bare essentials.
Even gone for a minimalist background pic:

Obviously this pic is vastly shrunk down for and much rougher looking than on my 21" monitor.. :)

    Ooh, I'll share too. :)

I'll linky this at the moment, but why not just paste the picture directly into the post? Easier than clicking IMO.

I don't like an Icon cluttered desktop.

My desktop is pretty boring, especially compared to GhostDog's cool minimalist yinyang thingy. There is a bit of a story with it however. My womenfolk belong to WIRES (WIldlife REScue) and last summer they hand raised an orphan magpie chick. My daughter called her Isabo, and when she was big enough to release we let her go but she wouldn't go away for a couple of months, kept coming back for handouts and snuggled up to our dogs on their beds. Eventually she found a boyfriend and left (the magpie that is, not the daughter).

Isn't Isabo the name of the character that Michelle Pfeiffer played in Lady Hawk?

Just asked the daughter - you're spot on Cailith, that's where the name came from. The magpie boyfriend was called Captain, and strangely the dogs chased him at every opportunity whilst tolerating Isabo invading their beds. Interesting animal psychology going on there.

Hmm GnR... that's an awesome desktop.

I don't know if anyone would be able to emulate that desktop. As my aunt so eloquently put these phrases... "That's The Best" :)

here at home on both my several Linux systems and my Win2k system I have no pix on the 1280x1024 21" displays.

At work I have gone for a DFRC "X" Research aircraft picture cut down for the screen (19" @ 1280x1024)

Here is a link to the original..

    http://www.dfrc.nasa.gov/Gallery/Photo/X-36/Medium/EC97-44294-23.jpg

Previously, I had a piccy of our sun in eclipse and a Shadow Dreadnaught just in the picture, ie if the sun was there, you wouldn't see the shadow..

    :D

My desktop is all about efficiency. Yea, that's it. That's what I'll call it.

I actually loaded up an Explorer replacement one day but it only lasted about two weeks. You can skin it any way you want to and add some nice modules in it, but I couldn't be bothered to learn how. So I turfed it.

My desktop is actually about speed and disorganization. I use 800x600 16bit because it's the quickest. I don't use a background because it can steal some memory. And I turn off the transition effects and it makes my computer "seem" 25% faster. And I just add everything to the desktop so I can find it without looking for it. :)

So keep your fancy XP desktop :p

All I can say about XP is.... IT SUCKS SHIT....

I think Win2K is still more stable than that over priced heap of crap from The GATES of hell...

Running SolidWorks on it you keep getting conflicting errors, submit the bug report to Microsofty (I think its more of a program tracking device than bug reporting) and it keeps telling you is this program or its that, strangly enough it doesn't report when Explorer crashes to the "Blue Screen of Death"

Snaketails I have found XP very stable. I have only had the blue screen of death with bad ram. I occassionally have IE or explorer crashing (but I am always able to kill whatever and return to desktop) but generally that is due to spyware I've picked up, or some crap program I am checking out. Once the sus prog or spyware (Ad-aware needs to be constantly checked for updates) is removed everything is fine.

Have u run all the XP service packs??
Win 2k also became heaps more stable after applying service packs.
