40, balding, beer bellied, boring, crotchety, sarcastic, casual gamer. Play weeknights, occasional weekdays, and sometimes on the weekend if I'm not too hungover or engrossed in a book. Melbourne, Australia.

Looking to join a group of like minded grumpy old humans to enjoy games - because they're, you know, just games - and talk about the good old days of the Commodore 64, Atari 2600, and my beloved 486 DX-2 66, whilst moving pixels across a screen in a pleasing manner.

The Division stole my soul over the last year and a half, suspect The Division 2 will do the same, but also looking to branch out into other games. I've got maybe 30 installed and play only 2 or 3.

Best game ever? Probably Civilization II or Curse of the Azure Bonds though Quake will always hold a special place in my heart for being the first game that I bought a dedicated graphics card for.

Sounds like he is already a member :D

Congratulations! You have past our stringent don't die before 25 application requirement and have made it into TOG.

Keep in mind there is more here than the division for that flaky game you have signed up for. There are other flaky games which all have their own division and other things of wonder, joy and wtf.

This guy does not have to pay the entry fee shrubbo... best intro ever :)

Have a soft spot for quake as well, especially Q2, and I remember also getting my first dedicated video cards with this game. (Riva and Vodoo ...Riva was better)
I used to help look after the paradise servers many years ago late 90's early 2000's from memory.

Still the only game I know where you can get 30 kills under a minute. (Hook and Rail.)

    Welcome to TOG @JebusJones78 :)

Ha, cheers mate. Yep Quake II was also an old favourite - I still recall marvelling at the coloured lighting and the little flies buzzing around. There was an old Q2 video set to Skunk Anansie's "Charlie Big Potato that i still visualise every time I hear that rocking track.

I think my original card was a Riva as well. I remember it was one of the first that wasn't just dedicated 3D graphics - it was the normal Windows graphics card as well (when that was a concern).

Hell, I still remember moving from an EGA to a VGA monitor - now that was an awesome day!

I still have my Apple ][+ and 13" Sony TV as a monitor for it...both still work. But now 5.25" floppies cost A LOT and are hard to find...pennies back in those days.

I agree, I had my best times running up phone bills with my 300baud modem. Back in the Wild-West days of BBS's! -)

haha I remember the apple 2's with the green screens etc and the TRS 80 with the black and white screens..

My first modem for gaming back then was a 28.8k and FPS gaming in Oz or the US from NZ was always a challenge. Could mainly only really play CTF due to the lag difference.
The most common fix was first to turn software compression off and then try little tweaks to get the best performance after that.

Living next door to the exchange helped a lot though.

Had a saying back then "Be one with the lag.."
