In an attempt to avoid losing the thread - and to ensure that other TOG members in Sydney don't miss out due to the original idea being buried in another thread, I'm reposting the attempted organisational effort in a new thread.

Could one of our Admins make this thread a Sticky temporarily? Ta. :)

Anywho, we in Sydney are attempting to have a get together - and the proposal as it stands at the moment is for a day on the weekend for Yum Cha. Mmmmmm.

    Details as follows:

Where: Kam Fook in Chinatown (unless strenuous objections are raised!) Please see post below for arrangements for the day - Kam Fook don't take bookings for lunch on Sundays..

    When: May 18th @ 12:00noon

Who: (Table will be booked for 10 people, pending additional numbers)

    Definites: (Preference in parentheses)
    Janus & Wife (Chinatown) (Mob: 0413 242 212)
    Basketcase & Wife
    LoneWife (Chatswood)
    Churchill (Chinatown)
    Dillon & Missus (Chinatown)

    Possibles:
    Zenith
    Any other TOG|Sydneysiders interested?

Post away below with questions, suggestions, and RSVPs. All of TOG|Sydney is invited. I'll keep this post updated.

    I'm a definate.

Could I vote for Chinatown? While we are probably looking at a lunch thing (Yum Cha) the ability to kick on for a few drinks at one of the numerous bars in Darling Harbour makes Chinatown very attractive....

I re-read the original post and I will confirm for a Sunday at Chatswood or Chinatown.

I guess I would prefer Chinatown as there are other places to go after the feed and plenty to do at Darling Harbour.

But if the majority pick Chatswood that is fine by me.

First post updated with people's preferences.

LoneWife I'm putting you down for a Chatswood preference - let me know if that's ok.

    BC - what about you?

Oh.. forgot an important question - we've got enough now to make a day of it - but of course the invitation is still open for other TOG members to join us.

    When?

How does May 18th sound to people? Gives us 2 weeks to organise stuff if needed - also, I'm not available due to the in-laws visiting on May 11th. 8)

    Preferences, people?

Hey Janus, I'd like to come along, but best put me down as a possibility for the 18th because I may be seeing the matrix with friends during the day on sunday.

    Oh, and ignore Derelict's warning's - he's just jealous of my monitor-tan. :p

Excellent. Looks like it will be the 18th of May then. How does 12:00 noon sound for everyone?

Next item on the agenda.. location.

We've had quite a few votes for Chinatown - are people happy with Chinatown?

If so, I will make a booking at Kam Fook for 12:00pm on May 18th for TOG.

Kam Fook is on the top floor of Market City - next to the Reading Cinema.

    Thoughts? Comments? Random Drooling?

    Oh.. and first post updated.

Was just about to post that, Father.

Tell you what - you put a pic up of yourself, and we'll post pics of the TOG|Sydney get-together.

I want to see whether you actually look like Max Headroom.

Hmm.. some bad news. (Not real bad - just slightly unfortunate. But hey, us grown-ups can handle it.. 8))

Kam Fook don't take lunch bookings for Sundays - or ever, it sounds like.

    So here's the deal:

My wife and I will get there a bit earlier to line a table up for us. (She doesn't mind doing this as I dangled the "You can go shopping, dear." bait. :D) When people arrive they can give they my mobile a call:

    0413 242 212

And we can find each other - I'll either be in front of the restaurant or inside with a table for 10.

Then we'll have much food and merriment.

Please confirm (for my own sense of well-being) that you guys have my number. :D

Harry Wong and Hu Ming Zheng at work say they wouldn't go to Kam Fook because of credit card scams about 3 years ago, and if we do, then expect to pay more than normal for Yum Cha and to check the bill closely.

They both recommend the Silver Moon, next door to the Capitol Theatre. But wait, there's more, they recommend not getting there later than 10:30-11:00am or we will find it hard to get a table.

Anyway, there's some thoughts to think about if we can't get a seat at Kam Fook, or we don't like the restaurant when we meet there.

There's no problem with credit card scams at Kam Fook - as due to that whole sordid saga, Kam Fook no longer take credit card!

    ..so.. bring cash. :)

I've always found Kam Fook's quality pretty good - definitely better than Silver Spring (I think that's the one your work guys are talking about). The problem with Silver Spring is that they're also doing an All-You-Can-Eat "deal" for quite a bit of money. I've found that All-You-Can-Eat generally brings the quality down in the quest for quantity..

But yes, there are a couple of options if Kam Fook is insanely busy.

I'll aim to get there around the 11:30-11:40 mark to take a number and get us a table. Call 0413 242 212[/quote] when you get within the vicinity of the entrance of the restaurant.

Mmm.. I can just taste all that delicious grease now..
