Well, this one was released yesterday (aussie time) and all I can say is, FUN.

It's a really simple ARPG (Action RPG) made by a large portion of the main guys behind both diablo games.

It's very cartoonish, simplified in all the right ways and with more features.

Basically it's just a damn fun game (and at a budget $20 USD) .

So, I highly recommend trying out the demo (although I got it on pre-order based off hype).

Very very fun! I love it. Much of the feel of the original Diablo. I've been playing as the melee character so far. Dual wielding and buffing my pet. The bonus areas from the maps you can buy or the areas opened by the "portal guy" are a nice distraction too.

    I highly recommend this game.

If you loved Mythos than you MUST buy this game.

Even if you loved Diablo you should buy it - isn't Matt Uelman's music sublime?

Yeah, the music is pure win.

I'm playing a vanquisher with dual pistols of pwn. Only playing on Hard at the moment, which is actually really quite easy. I think I'll fire up an alchemist on VH for a bit of a challenge.

BTW: Runic have released a respec mod which adds a potion to the general vendor to allow you to re-assign your skill (but not stat) points.

I went for a minion master build, but it seems a bit overpowered. 5 imps, a golem and my pet, they just tear through everything while I pick up the loot. Should have gone for a higher difficulty I guess.

Runic seem like a great bunch who really listen to their community, so I'm interested to see what else they do with the game, and also what the community brings to it once they get into TorchED.

Yeah, it's actually really quite easy unless you're playing on very hard. Very hard is very hard with alchemist and destroyer - vanquisher is much easier than these two.

Yeah, but they pushed this out in 11 months.

It's a test of the client engine they'll be using in an upcoming free to play MMORPG.

They basically said the studio and a lot of it's top staff had a couple recent projects fall through (mythos/hellgate) so they wanted to put out a fun cut priced single player game to get morale back up. Netcode and the extra issues it introduces (you need to make classes actually work together etc) would have compromised how quick and simple they wanted the game to be.

Just downloaded this game today, and am already hooked played most of the day at work on my laptop and have just downloaded on my home PC and am really enjoying it, a simple dungeon hack and slash that i think i will be diving into on a regular basis.

Would guys say this game would be good for someone new to the RPG game genre?
..meaning a good introduction due to it's simplified PRG nature.

Very much so. The game is very simplistic, just install and play basically.

It has Tip's that pop up when you use for example your skill panel, your storage chest etc.

Yeah, I'd say it's perfect for that, especially with the skill respec potion mod.

    Great game.

Has the dungeon crawling and music styles of Diablo 1; pistols, imp armies, art style, & random dungeons of Mythos; all wrapped up in the gameplay style of FATE (pets & fishing).

I even got a random dungeon quest that looked a lot like the tilesets used in some of the Diablo 3 videos. Looked cool!

Simple, nice, addicting ARPG...easily moddable and a nice price too: $20. Can't beat it.

But I can see it coming. They'll expand on Torchlight too. They have to.

They've released mod tools for Torchlight, that'll keep the game alive long enough to keep sales coming in.

Their time would be better spent building out the MMO version.

I hope they move it away from being just a Diablo clone though. It's fun, but things like the music needed to be fresh and new, not a copy of the Diablo tones which didn't fit the brighter look of the game. There also didn't seem to be too much through behind the enemies of the game. Giant spiders in the first 30 seconds? Why? They didn't seem to match the environment, it wasn't a big spider cave with cobwebs ect, they were just sprinkled in with other types of monsters.
