Official Website: http://www.tribesuniverse.com/ Developer HiRez Studio's has announced their acquisition of the Tribes franchise rights to produce an MMO. Most known for their work with Global Agenda, a team orientated third-person massively multiplayer game that features numerous styles of both pve and pvp content. HiRez ranks as one of my favorite developers for their strong connection with their community and willingness to support their ideas by incorporating desired elements quickly into Global Agenda. Hi-Rez Studios announces development of Tribes Universe MMO - Massively
Why, why must people shit on the Tribes name? FFS HiRez you failed with that horrid of a game GA now you wish to hide your incompetence and develop a new MMO but hide it behind a name.
I wouldnt say GA is a failure. I'd say it was them testing technology at a guess, and although it perhaps hasn't worked out as well as they (and we) would have liked, I hardly think its a failure. Interesting. Really like the sounds of this, especially the first one: * Three Tribes (factions) * Full clan (agency) support * First person view (third person for some vehicles) * Full vehicle support (ground and air) * Full persistent world with territory control (no instances) * PvP focused * Huge outdoor maps (about 10x the area of sonoran desert) * Large scale fights (100+ players) * Jetpacks, skiing, lots of weapons, etc Source
I didn't think GA was that bad at all.... I think that this is an amazing announcement. It's exactly what the GA community has been asking for since Beta.
GA was a failure. It had it's moments, bits were fun, but it certainly wasn't what they were hoping it would be. BUT, the best learning comes through failure - they will be keen not to repeat the same mistakes. Hopefully they can pull it off and make a half-decent game.
Someone summed up Tribes when they said the game was about speed. You cannot get an MMO to be fast enough to be a Tribes game. How can you when you have hundreds of people playing in an area all firing weapons and driving\flying vehicles. They are better off just working on a PC version of Tribes 4. Ange
GA has a great playstyle. But TBH it is only about 1/8th of a game. I guess thats why it is only $30. If they can bring the same type of gameplay to a complete game. Watch out. It could be awesome.
I just can't agree with this statement. They tried to create a 10v10 space shooter game with progression, a combination of TF2 and WoW battlegrounds. They did that successfully. The Agency vs Agency game was completely experimental, and they had no idea how to pull it off . The closest game to it is EvE, which is still completely different. I'll agree that AvA is a failure for the casuals ( read TOG ), but it's still a very popular playstyle for hardcore Agencies. Global Agenda sold lots of boxes, they're in the black financially, and looking to expand. How is that a failure?
I couldn't call Global Agenda a failure, everytime I hop on there's games running 24/7 so I know a lot of people still play. All aspects of the game has continued to evolve. They have new opponents in pve, new gameplay and maps being added over time, and in pvp they have continued to modify systems to reward players as well as adapt the AvA around player's wishes. In fact thats the #1 reason I love HiRez studios. Some companies will tell you what you should like, they're doing what they want often against the community wishes. HiRez listens to their community, incorporates the best ideas and desires in a way that works without breaking the game. That's a rare talent.
Planetside still beats Global Agenda IMHO. As somebody said you can't make a MMOFPS where speed is critical, Planetside realized this way back when and the game is slower paced to allow for that. Also pretty much everything in that list except the jetpacks and sking was in Planetside. Here is the recruitment video from my old guild for Planetside http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkmv8pSKZyo Later part shows some of teh combat from the game.
Ooh this is interesting. I really liked Tribes! But I do hope they do a good job. I liked GA until after the intro section where you couldn't do anything without a group. Atleast thats the way I remember it.
I believe a large percentage of GA players would prefer to play Planetside 2, if it were available. Hi-Rez making a Tribes game with Planetside elements such as progression and 3 sided teams, could be the true spiritual successor to Planetside that many of us have been waiting for.
Massively Exclusive: Hi-Rez talks Tribes Universe - Massively Highlights Include: "Tribes Universe is not a traditional MMO. All character progression is designed to give more options in gameplay (not inherently greater player strength), levels are more for reputation, and the skill system is much more similar to a game like EVE." "We have been working on systems to support larger game play for a long time -- which is really one of the most critical parts in this development cycle. Many of our other systems are already in place for supporting different weapons, jetpacks, vehicles, etc."
Not sure how tribes would work in an MMO environment. I didn't give GA a go and from the look of some of the posts here I didn't miss much. However, my "I miss playing Tribes" crosshairs are currently locked on - http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum...17745-firefall-tribes-borderlands-fusion.html
I don't know. I don't usually go for FPS type games, but GA has a nice feel with good classes and no headshots. It plays just as promised 80%FPS/20%MMO. The instances and missions are quite a bit of fun. Its worth the $30. My personal opinion is that it is not quite a full game. There is only a couple hours of PVE.
From an MMO perspective, yeah that's true. But its free2play now and they're adding content over time so I'm happy with that. ALSO Sign up for a Tribes account on the official website. Tribes Universe
