The weather is terrible and Christmas came early so we picked up a wii today. Its mainly so the little bloke can get into gaming (he has been asking for a little while). We got the GAME deal which is the black wii with the sonic winter games and COD MW (I have it on PC already but will have a look before trading it in).

Anyone got good suggestions for good father and son (5 years) games?

I have been looking around and they do look alright. bring on the christmas sales!!

Do the second hand ones work well? I would never buy a PC game because people would just trade ones with violated GUIDs.

Dunno. Would be worthwhile asking the folks at GAME or EB.

Awesome! Welcome to Club Wii :D

Mario cart is fun. My kids like all the Lego games but the latest one - Harry Potter years 1-4 is their favorite at the moment and I must admit I like it too. You can help him out with the harder puzzles and he can run around hitting things and picking stuff up :)

I have brought second hand games from eb games. They are checked to make sure they work properly and they come with a 30 day guarentee..encounter a problem and they will replace it. I'm not sure if Game has the same policy but I would say it would be something similar.

Not sure on the checking policy Naba. I remember my kids taking stuff in to them for trade.

They slapped stickers on them and placed them on the shelf straight away.

I guess the games being in excellent condition with no scratches, original boxes and manuals might have made a difference.

My Son of 4 loves lego batman (we have it on xbox) which is also in Wii, my daughter loves the Wii Fit and Wii Sports while both my kids love 'Family Game night' on the Xbox which is also on the Wii. If he likes Dora or Diego then 'Go Diego Go' would be a winner.
Lastly Animal Crossign (helps if he can read) is a nice virtual world game.

ps. EB dont check shit in exchange games, as AO said they just bung em on the shelf and hope their exchange policy makes it ok when you find weed, porn, loves notes and whatever else inside. (yes first hand experience) Make sure you screen it before your kids get to them.

I play the Wii mostly with my girls.. tennis and Mario games.

We seem to be getting more and more into the 'Sing_Star' karaoke games at the moment. I hire out the games - and bought a cheapie Wii microphone here online

My favourite game on my Wii is house of the dead overkill. I bought the edition which came with the revolver gun shells to hold the Wii Remote.

Its heaps of fun. Especially with a friend shooting at the same time.

You would be surprised at how many kids play this MA rated game with the guiness book of record for the most swear words in a computer game (I think it was around 300).:w

I am sure he will appropriate it for his own use when the kids are at school.

I think you should keep it for yourself and buy yourself an The Innex Rapid Shot for Wii may be too real | Joystiq

With it, I think you will find the experience a lot more interesting than sitting at your keyboard pressing WASD and click with your left mouse button.

For your kid, the LEGO Harry Potter Year 1-4 would be good fun as it has just been released.

Check out the latest reviews on Gamespot Au
    http://au.gamespot.com/reviews.html...onvert&om_clk=reviews&tag=reviews;header;more

Also Goldeneye 007 has been remade for the Wii and is about to be released
    http://au.gamespot.com/wii/adventure/goldeneye007/index.html?tag=result;title;0

Also Sid Meier's Pirates has just had the Xbox version ported over. It only rated 6.0 at gamespot due to dodgy dancing controls and a bit of problem with the sword fighting, but its the same great game.

I like the Wii exclusive bombardment mode where you have a sideways shooting mode to take out all the town defence guns before they sink your ship. If you succeed you can appoint a new governor sympathetic to your faction/

Wii TACTICAL MACHINE GUN (eBay item 150508252962 end time 17-Nov-10 11:26:13 AEDST) : Video Games

I just bought 1 of the lot of 10 being sold by Futuretronics in Burwood Victoria for A$89.95 with A$15-00 postage (free pickup if you can get to Burwood).

Its pretty good value as its effectively a Wii Remote with a nunchuk in a nice package for FPS games on the Wii.
    ============================

Wii Controller Wireless Buckshot Gun Metallic Red "NEW" (eBay item 270653158033 end time 30-Oct-10 11:16:01 AEDST) : Video Games
YouTube - Best Wii Light Gun - The Buckshot - Perfect Wii Shotgun

I am also thinking of getting this from a seller in Winnepeg Canada.

In house of the dead, Overkill, it would be cool to reload the shotgun using the slide pump to blow away those zombies.

EDIT: I won't be buying the Buckshot as even though it looks cool, it has fundamental design flaws like the wii remote buttons being covered over by the housing so you don't have access to the other buttons like +/- and 1 and 2 buttons or the on off switch on the remote.

Also, you need to pull the slide completely back or it won't depress the A and reload. It also is front heavy so it will be tiring to hold and play for the long term.

So its design flaws mean that it will make your game play worse than using a controller which allows you direct access to the A button so you will not suffer misloads, especially if you are getting tired and can't fully pull back the pump slide to full lock position.

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2011 (Top Shot Elite Gun pack)

If you are looking for a better designed shotgun peripheral, check out the Activision and its Red Octane subsidiary's new Top Shot Elite which will also be available on the Xbox and Playstation.

Note for the PS3 and XBox 360, They will be giving you a free sensor bar so the Wii like functionality will be available.

Just like the Wii Fit was the must have peripheral in the last few years, it likes like 2010-11 will be the year of the light gun game as both Sony and Microsoft launch their motion controllers.

It has a pump action slide as well as an adjustable shoulder brace.

Its expected by the end of 2010, early 2011 when Cabella Dangerous Hunts 2011 is released.

BigW has a preorder for A$74.95 including the game and controller as a bundle. Its got an Australian ship date of 31 December 2010.

For those who think you won't get much use out of a dedicated Wii Light gun, These are some of the Wii Games I own that would use it.

With new titles being released for the Wii all the time.

Like Goldeneye 007 which will be reimagined using the current bond rather than Pierce Brosnan.

It will also offer four player onscreen death match.

Try Sid Meiers Pirates as the second player has the lame job of playing a fiddle to help improve your dancing to woo a governor's daughter or acting as a squaking parrot to assist in your sword fightings or trimming the sails during a sea fight.

As the reviews said, its a crappy extension of the existing gameplay and would have been better dropped from the game altogether.

For anyone older than 10 years old, it would be a pretty lame role to play. But for a five year old, its not difficult and they will get a sense of accomplishment from helping you succeed in wooing a governor's daughter or beating an enemy swordsman into submission.

Anyway, if you like this type of game (eg. Pirates/Swashbuckling/Sea Battles in the age of Sail) and want to try something similar in multiplayer cooperative team combat, you can also consider joining me in Pirates of the Burning Sea (PotBS) when it goes Free to play in the near future.

Click on the link to my post below providing all the details on the change over to a free play - micro transaction business model.

Sid Meier's Pirates! WII Nintendo WII Questions & Answers

Q: [IMG] How is two player mode? On the Xbox we were only able to fight each other, so how is it different and how would you access it?

A1: The second player can just help during the main adventure. They can help you in duels as a parrot, or on the sea to adjust your sails (makes you go faster), or during a dance as a musician, or as another cannoneer during city bombardment. These things help a little, but are not required by any means.
