Desert Combat - a mod for Battlefield 1942. Best game balance I've seen. Most enjoyable on-line experience for me, partly due to the players just having fun in-game, and partly because it was my first online team game. That it was new to all of us must have helped with the fun-factor, but it just worked. The balance was spot on, the visuals (of the day) were spot on.... everything about it was perfect for the time and place.

Nothing has come close to that level of enjoyment for me.

Single player - Oblivion, Blade Runner and Civ4 :)

It would be hard to pick one from the hundreds I've played.

Everquest - My first MMO and none has ever been quite the same.

Baldurs Gate 2 - One of my favorite all time RPGs

Dark Reign - I loved the unit AI and waypoint system that I haven't seen done quite that well in any RTS since.

    Metal Gear Solid 4 - PS3

I agree about EQ, my first MMO as well, though I think WoW was a better game, you never forget your first love.

Also notable - Neverwinter Nights, Half-Life, DOOM, Mass Effect 1

No 1: Baldurs Gate 2: SOA
Its the greatest rpg ever made period.

No 2: Football Manager series (a new one each year like Fifa)
A timesink that I still enjoy 10 months later whn the next one is announced

    No 3: Final Fantasy VII
My first gaming love. If they remade this with todays tech I would be complete.

Baldur's Gate 2, and the first one coming in short second.

That RPG redefined what and how RPGs should be. If I ever rate any game, it's always in comparison to BG2. This leads me to be very hopeful for Obsidian's Project Eternity.

There is an Enhanced Edition due next month for PC and it's coming to Mac, iPad and Android.

What it comes down to is what games I keep coming back to.
Strat: equal first are Homeworld 2 and Dawn of War II.
HW2 IMHO is the most atmospheric and visually impressive RTS, even today.

Prolly most game time would have to be Battlefield 2142 (was sorely addicted for a while), but clearly not the best game.

BG2 was great, but for me Planescape: Torment still has the best setting, writing and story of those old school RPG's.

    EQ1 for MMOs.

    Battlefield series for FPS.

System Shock on the single player side.

For MMOs, I'd have to say World of Warcraft. While I think there are better games now, it is 8 years old, and I've invested close to 10 000 hours into it.

The Football Manager series (previously Championship Manager before the split). Spent countless hours in front of those games.

    Quake 3 for FPS.

I honestly don't know what to pick for RPG.

Same with strategy. I think I'm somewhat clouded by nostalgia, since I'd happily pick Civ 1 or Red Alert.
