Just got updates to 13 games today, my guess is it's in time for a winter achievements giveaway thing like the summer one they had, particularly as many of the games updated were part of that.

Current wisdom is that the Steam sale will start on the 20th (so probably the 21st for us in Aus/NZ)

Well the Steam Holiday Sale is now on but I can't access the Steam website so they must either be busy updating it or they are being hammered by millions of people trying to get a bargain. At least there is no risk of anything being sold out when I eventually get on there.

Yeah was very flake this morning but they seemed to have got it running OK now.

Serious Sam 3 is something I might pick up but I expect it to become a daily deal and even be discounted further then it's current 25%

The warner bros pack looks kinda interesting:

    http://store.steampowered.com/sub/13024/

    War in the North
    Arkham City
    Fear 3
and a bunch of others that aren't all that interesting to me personally but those 3 for $74 is probably not a bad deal.

Undecided though, well let me rephrase that to "tempted" but in reality I have too many games to play already so I should be sensible.

Still ... don't be suckered into a "bargin"

Still compare prices. Some "Bargins" just, well, aren't

Some good specials and, as Father said, tempting.................

There is also a prize giveaway for doing achievements in daily games, with first prize being ALL the steam games available in your region.

Looking forward [STRIKE]dreading[/STRIKE] the next few weeks!

The daily giveaway gives you a freebie as well, I got the longest journey, dreamfall and a 50% voucher for valve games just for entering. I don't have any of the other ones to obtain achievements so that's as far as it goes but those are good adventure games to get for free.

Is it the same for everyone or is there some random element there?

Interesting so it is random. The 50% valve voucher will come in handy if they intend to release half life 3 before March (as if) otherwise every Valve game released I own already, so that one is gonna end up staying unused.

I got two copies (maybe I already had one?) of Portal and a 33% off Valve games released before 2nd January, but only usable after 2nd January, so basically anything that I miss out on buying in the sale, which is nothing. Considering I, every man, and his dog have portal, and that they occasionally sell it for free, that is less than stellar too.

    That said, free is free!

    Anyone still not have portal?

You probably did already have a copy of Portal - they gave you one for purchasing (or was it pre-ordering) Portal 2

I got the 50% Valve too. But the only game I don't have is Portal 2 which is currently 75% off. :w

I got two vouchers, one for 33% off Valve games and another for 50% off Fallout-New Vegas. I already own all of the Valve games anyway but the voucher for Fallout is welcome as it's the one game I planned on picking up over the sale, it's already 50% off anyway and it will still be until the 20th Jan :)

There's a thread over in the Steam forums listing the various games and vouchers that are being given away, some lucky folks are getting DOTA2!

Plus they are all at least 50% off at the moment. So basically these vouchers are a worthless marketing ploy? Or have I missed something?

As far as I can tell, the only way these vouchers would be useful is if Valve decide to release something new before Jan 2nd. HL3 maybe .

AND if that new game wasn't part of the Valve-wide 50% off sale...
